The topic of this internship consists in offering a service for deriving structural information from digitized books in order to build a hyperlinked table of contents that could then be used to navigate inside the books.
In order to provide this service, two approaches will be considered
- an unsupervised (i.e. automatic) service that will rely on combining multiple methods, some of which being in-house pre-existing and published methods;
- an interactive service, where the user will supervise the combination of the above automatic methods thanks to a carefully designed tool;
The objective of the internship is to build the service and to test it by participating to the INEX Book Structure international competition in summer 2010.
This internship involves both research and engineering activities, with an experiment on a large available dataset.
