Internship

Non-photorealistic Photo Albums

Unit: Grenoble/TVPA

Gabriela Csurka - Gabriela.Csurka@xrce.xerox.com

Duration: 4-6 months
Start Date: January 2009 or later

XRCE propose to explore and exploit recent advances in image analysis, image processing and non-photorealistic rendering in the context of home digital photography and photo album creation.

The main objective of the internship is to compare and improve state-of-the-art approaches. A comparison between the different approaches will be done through a dedicated dataset and, if relevant, user preference evaluations. Based on these evaluations, the candidate will analyze the strengths and limitations of the methods and propose solutions and improvements accordingly.

The ideal candidate will be a strong Master or Ph.D. student with background in computer vision or image processing. Good knowledge of C or C++ is required. Background on techniques for non-photorealistic rendering is a plus.

XRCE provides an informal and relaxed working environment situated in the Parc de Maupertuis in Meylan. The successful students will be given the freedom and flexibility to find their own solutions and to work in a way that suits them but will have the guidance and support of experienced full-time Xerox researchers and thereby gain an introduction to the field of commercial research in a world-class research laboratory. The project is part of the Textual and Visual Pattern Analysis research area.
