They make it happen
My research areas are Natural Language Processing and Machine Learning. I focus in statistical models for natural language processing, with particular interests in parsing, translation and grammar induction techniques. Over the past years I have been working in named entity extraction, chunking, syntactic parsing and semantic role labeling. More recently I became interested in spectral methods for NLP, and how can we use them to learn expressive grammars.
Currently I am the president of SIGNLL
, the SIG organizing the CoNLL conference. I am a reviewer for TACL, and typically I am a member of the PC of ACL, EMNLP and CoNLL.
I joined XRCE as research scientist in June 2014. From 2009 to 2014 I was research scientitst at the Universitat Politecnica de Catalunya (UPC) in Barcelona, where I still maintain links and I supervise PhD students. From 2006 to 2009 I was a postdoc researcher at MIT/CSAIL working with Michael Collins. From 2002 to 2005 I was a PhD student at UPC, under the supervision of Lluis Marquez.
