We show how finite state technology provides a set of basic, reusable tools that cart be integrated into various high level natural language processing applications such as termino1og extraction multilingual information retrieval or translation/comprehension aids. Those applications are in turn integrated Into advanced platforms for document processing, such as the Callimaque virtual library project.
