The Cross-Language Technologies area (CLT) creates effective tools for overcoming foreign language barriers.
The majority of content being published on the Internet is now in a language other than English; companies are struggling to make their technical and sales material available in different languages to reach new markets while constantly updating existing versions; multinational institutions rely on the accessibility of their proceedings in all relevant languages to ensure transparency and prevent democratic imbalance; individuals want to interact more and more across different idioms.
The CLT area focusses on creating technologies for translation and for multilingual information access.
Some highlights of our current research and activities:
We work together with Language Service Providers to offer statistical machine translation tools for reducing the cost of producing high-quality translations of technical documents.
In our research effort, we benefit from coordinating and contributing to the research project SMART (Statistical Modeling for Retrieval and Translation) . Our active participation in the PASCAL 2 European Network of Excellence further strengthens our collaborations with some of the best academic research institutions in Europe.
