I joined XRCE as a Research Scientist in 2001. My current research interests mainly focus on Machine Learning techniques applied to Statistical Natural Language Processing and Text Mining. I develop tools for applications in fields such as document categorisation, multi-media and multilingual information retrieval and entity extraction.
I am a member of the European Network of Excellence PASCAL (Pattern Analysis, Statistical modelling and ComputAtional Learning) and am also involved in a number of EU and French governmental research projects.
I started my research activities in 1988, in the field of Robotic Dynamics and Control after which I joined the Joint Research Centre of the European Communities to work on biological metaphors (Genetic Algorithms, Neural Networks and Immune Networks) applied to process control. After spending one year as a Visiting Scientist at York University (UK), I spent 4 years applying Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning Techniques in Industry (Tractebel - Suez). I then worked as a Data Mining Senior Consultant and led Projects in most major Belgian banks and utilities.
I have a PhD in Applied Sciences from the University of Brussels.
Publications since october 2001 are (almost all) available here .
