German Finite-State Morphology. History of an application.

Authors: Anne Schiller
Workshop "Finite-State Technologies in Natural Language processing", Freudenstadt, Germany, June 4-6, 2009
Since the invention and initial implementations of "two-level morphology" in the 1980s, various finite-state tools have been developped and they have been applied for many different languages. I will present some aspects of developping a morphological analyser for German and provide examples of rules and lexicons from my experience working with PC-KIMMO, twolc, lexc, xfst and wfsc.
