On November 6th 2003, the Xerox Research Centre Europe (XRCE) celebrated 10 years of innovation in Europe in Meylan (Grenoble), France. XRCE, a small research lab in 1993 has grown to become a thriving innovative centre of 100 people. The centre strategy focuses on innovation, technology transfer, partnerships and leveraging European know-how. XRCE has driven the creation of a number of commercial products from the fruits of its early research. The anniversary event took place in early November and included keynote speeches from :
A pioneer in ubiquitous computing, XRCE took a step back to demonstrate how its predictions and prototypes of a decade ago have become a reality in today's professional environments. Xerox scientists shared their technological vision for the next 10 years and guests had the opportunity to interact with the technology of tomorrow in interactive demo sessions. The European Commission testified the importance of industrial research within the community and how centres such as XRCE have contributed in the past to European scientific advances in the 4th and 5th frameworks and the role of industrial R&D in the 6th framework. The event brought together a number of guests and colleagues from industry and academia. Please contact us if you would like to receive the 10th anniversary CDRom. Inside you'll find out how XRCE has been focusing on increasing productivity in the workplace through new document technologies which lead to 'Better Ways of Working'. There are also a number of technology videos and publications.
