Area Manager, Parsing & Semantics

Frédérique Segond manages the Parsing and Semantics research group at Xerox's European Research Centre (XRCE) in Grenoble, France. She has held this position since 2003.

Segond joined Xerox as a research scientist in 1993 to work on an intelligent dictionary lookup tool. She was then made responsible for the design and implementation of a French Lexical Functional Grammar (LFG) and afterwards for the Lexical Sense Disambiguation project where she worked on the European projects "EAGLES", "ROMANSEVAL" and "EuroWordNet".
In between research projects, Segond spent three years in the Xerox business development team where she was in charge of transferring research technologies to the European e-learning marketplace.

Before joining Xerox, Segond first worked at IBM-Yorktown researching the links between syntax and semantics then joined France Télécom research.

Segond is the co-author of five books and more than 50 scientific papers. She is a member of several scientific committees including the French competitive pole "Cap Digital". She also provides her scientific expertise to the European Commission.
